This large hotel construction site in Vietnam depicts the clash of often-different perceptions of risk, risk tolerance than what may be encountered in the West. Occupational health and safety issues in many countries also entail understanding the requirements and expectations of a wide range of government agency jurisdictions. Global Decisions has extensive experience in implementing the appropriate resolutions in these difficult situations. ©Global Decisions
An improperly protected worker pours acid over wrought iron furniture in preparation for the addition of surface coatings. Produced in large quantities in a very large Asian factory, it will be shipped to the U.S. and sold through several household-name companies’ store chains. These stores also make public claims of having implemented a global environmental, health and safety program. ©Global Decisions
What appears to be a pastoral scene in China is actually one of very serious water and food chain pollution. Huge quantities of mercury, distantly discharged upstream, have moved downstream, settled in the sediments and moved into the food chain where it is consumed daily. The levels of methyl mercury in fish from this major river far exceed levels in the infamous Minimata, Japan mercury poisoning incident of the 1970s. Even though fishing is illegal, it is widely and openly practiced due to the need for food. ©Global Decisions
